Author Spotlight with T.J. Loveless

Author Spotlight with T.J. Loveless

Questions:
1.    When did you decide to write?
I wrote a total of six novels starting from 2001 – 2008, all of them horrific – bad, bad writing. But I became addicted. In 2012, my husband was transferred to Rock Springs, WY, and I had the opportunity to throw myself into writing. To learn, ask questions, find out how publishing really works. In 2013, I published a little novella, Lucky Number Six, and gave it away for free. The next book, a full length novel, Going Thru Hell, sealed the deal.

2.   How did you come up with the idea of your newest book?
Which one? LOL I have three in rotation on the writing block at the moment. But the latest published one, Fractured Steel, was inspired by several things, including a song, The Fight by September Sky. I’d also edited Tears of Tess by Pepper Winters. Now, Fractured Steel is NOT romance in any sense, but the idea of telling what it’s really like after trauma struck me as what needed to be written, to be showcased.

3.   What Genre do write?

Several LOL Urban Fantasy, Humorous Contemporary Fantasy, Women’s Fiction/Thriller, and Thriller. I have a Science Fiction/Fantasy on the block for next year.

4.   Would you ever write with another author if asked?
Yes, I think a collaboration could be fun, as well as an anthology.

5.   Who is your biggest inspiration?
My grandmother. My daughter. My great aunt. My husband. Before dying, my grandmother told me to stop worrying about the naysayers, and do what I was meant for: writing. My great aunt died over 22 years ago, but she, like her sister (my grandmother) used to cheer my amateur efforts to write short stories. My daughter and husband help me brainstorm, and walk me through writer’s block all the time, as they work toward their own dreams. And my beautiful daughter, whenever I get frustrated, reminds me all the time to never give up, because she’s proud of what her mom does.

I’ve always considered myself damn lucky.

6.   Who are some of your favorite authors?
Margaret Mitchell, hands down. Stephen King. Karen Marie Moning (that woman knows how to write a true alpha male). John Grisham. Merry Farmer. Lynne Stevie.

7.   What genre do you like to read?
As you can see, my tastes are all over the place LOL Honestly, it’s whatever catches my eye.

8.   What was the last book that you read?
Informed Consent by Raphael Hirsch

9.   What are you working on?
Twisted Iron (Imperfect Metal Series), Dark Storms (Reign of the Braiders trilogy), Unlucky Number Four (The Fortune Cookie Diaries) … all of them should be out in June, outlining Shattered Gold (Imperfect Metal Series), Braider’s Revenge (Reign of the Braiders trilogy), and revising to publish Feel the Earth, Ride the Wind and Feed the Flame (Maidens of the Elements Series)

Fun Questions:
1.   Favorite Animal
Horses, dogs, and orcas
2.  Favorite Color
Dark blues and forest green
3.   Favorite Food
What time of the month is it?! Chocolate is always on the menu, seafood, a good steak, a great salad …
4.  Favorite Genre of Music
I tend more toward heavy metal, but adore country music from the 70’s & 80’s, LOVE Rhianna and Nickelback.
5.   Favorite Season
Winter. Although after this one, I was actually waving goodbye LOL Still, winter is the one season I truly love the entire time it’s got hold of the northern hemisphere.

Warning: Reading Fractured Steel may send reader on an emotional roller coaster. Filled with dark thoughts, extreme events, and the ability of humans to survive the worst life has to offer. Fractured Steel is filled with realistic consequences of decisions gone wrong, finding friendship in the face of adversity, and trying to live again.
Karen Barnes’s life is simple, just the way she likes it, surrounded by horses and the mountains of Laramie, Wyoming. She is well aware the longing for adventure can lead to blood and death, a hard lesson taught during her one, and only, tour in Iraq almost a decade ago.

A stranger approaches Karen about boarding a famous horse foaled in her stables, making her instincts go on high alert. She knows for a fact the stallion’s owner would never sell Five Alarm, the US Reining champion worth a hefty ten million dollars. In ten minutes the stranger confirms her worst fears, launching her into weeks of torment at the hands of her kidnappers.

Armed with a spine of steel, she escapes, but the ordeal is far from over. It was a cover up for espionage. Trusted contacts join the fray, and in the end, pay for their loyalty by dying for her safety. Others aren’t so trustworthy, and as the truth is brought to light, she is betrayed yet again.

Safety and freedom come with their own emotional shackles. She had the courage to fight the battle, but can she live with the aftermath of the carnage, or survive the fractures to her mind?

Fractured Steel (Imperfect Metal Series)

Warning: May cause reader to ride an emotional roller coaster, from laughing to anger, and possibly a few tears, as the characters play out the author’s dark imaginings of what life would be like for Kylie, and far too many gods seeking power. Book contains real consequences of battle, and the choices a parent will make trying to save their child.

KYLIE RIPPONS is a SpongeBob pajama bottom wearing, Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 driving, USDA certified klutz, coffee-addicted mortal, seeking a normal life despite the constant harassment of gods and the ability to braid time.

Constant immortal harassment forces Kylie to take drastic action, and she must braid time to save friends, her son, and herself, as the gods drive her into situations in which she must choose: kill a friend and permanently hide her son, leaving him motherless, or become a slave in exchange for his safety, leaving her soulless and insane.

If only the gods allowed for personal choice.

Going Thru Hell (Reign of the Braiders)

Warning: Reading Lucky Number Six may cause uncontrolled bursts of laughter, spewing drink out of the reader's nose, belief in snarky carnivorous unicorns and the need to visit New Orleans during Mardi Gras.

In New Orleans something with a weird sense of humor is stranding mythical creatures in Dr.
Tiffany Crews's courtyard.

Renowned psychiatrist, klutz, and Arkansas hillbilly with her feet firmly rooted in reality, Tiffany isn't quite ready for a one hundred twenty pound fairy godmother sporting dragonfly wings, nor a
unicorn to come waltzing into her life. Especially when the unicorn starts talking and farting rainbows and her new fairy godmother insists she's been sent because happily-single Tiffany made a wish to find her one true love.

Every attempt for Tiffany and friends to shove these mythical charges back to the place where they belong ends in hijinks and compromising situations. Never one to give up on a tricky problem, nor her grip on sanity, Tiffany decides she needs to fit the two myths into reality and Mardi Gras is just the time to start.

Lucky Number Six (Fortune Cookie Diaries)

Warning: Reading Odd Number Five may cause uncontrolled fits of laughter, belief in mischievous, Gerard Butler look-alike leprechauns, snarky unicorns, and the need to visit New Orleans during St. Patrick’s Day.

In New Orleans, Louisiana, something with a weird sense of humor is stranding myth in a nonmagical world.

Tiffany and friends are adjusting nicely to life with Miracai, the cantankerous, carnivorous unicorn, and Verna, the Fairy Godmother. They have high hopes of returning to a semi-normal life, but whatever is controlling the strings of fate isn’t going to let that happen.

Adding to the daily chaos, an honest-to-goodness leprechaun is dropped into the living room. Verna wants him to stay far from her perfect life, Janet and Tiffany would love to drop him off the roof, Miracai prefers him medium rare, and only Mark is able to tolerate the newbie for more than a few minutes at a time.

Much to Mark’s dismay, Kieran the Leprechaun is prone to creating vast amounts of mischief, and with it being St. Patrick’s Day weekend, he hopes they can figure out why the leprechaun is in NOLA before they run out of bail money.

Mark’s nerves are frayed, between Damn Duck’s Houdini tricks and Kieran’s hijinks, he’s not sure everyone can keep their sanity. He’d be happy if all of them came out in one piece.

A man can always hope.
